The Ship’s Company Theatre is committed to discovering the best contemporary and new plays from across Canada and the Atlantic Provinces. We are proud to be a champion of playwrights with a keen interest in those voices not often heard and reflecting the contemporary culture of our region and beyond.
If you are a playwright or creator and have a play to share with us, then we would love to receive it.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Ship’s Company Theatre exists to champion Canadian and Atlantic works that provoke conversation and are theatrically bold. We are looking for plays which ask sharp questions of what it means to be living now. We want to house a plurality of voices and stories that reflect the diversity of contemporary society.
We encourage you to familiarise yourself with our work by visiting us during our summer season and seeing a play or reading those plays we have produced recently.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SUBMIT?
All scripts that are received are considered by Ship’s Company Theatre readers, which is a team made up of professional playwrights, directors and other artists. The senior creative team including the Artistic Producer oversee the submissions process.
Submitting your script is the beginning of a relationship with the Ship, possibly leading to conversations with the artistic team or further development of your play.
We are a small team and volume of submissions we receive means this process can take up to 6 months. We are unable to enter into conversation about plays that we do not wish to take further.
We do not accept

- Multiple submissions – we would advise you to look at our programming and send the play you feel would be best suited to the Ship.
