Looking for the Shipwright Residency?

Marketing Director

 

JOB TYPE: Part-time, averaging 20 hrs/week
COMPENSATION: $20,000 annually
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Two years with option to renew

BENEFITS: Optional health benefits plan with Blue Cross and optional RRSP contribution matching program through RBC.

LOCATION: Remote October through May, and onsite/in-person June through September.

Reporting to the Artistic Director and General Manager, and working closely with the Community Relations Director, the Marketing Director oversees the Theatre’s marketing, communications, and major sponsorships including: media, publicity, social media, website; sponsorship initiatives; donor and member engagement; and front desk duties.

As part of the management team, the Marketing Director strives to deliver a balance between marketing expertise and dynamic engagement of sponsors, patrons, and volunteers to ensure community investment, revenue growth, excellent patron services, and promotion of the Theatre.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Season Branding

    • Develop a marketing plan for each season annually.
    • Manage the marketing budget.
    • Work with the Graphic Designer and Artistic Director in the creation of season-specific posters, the brochure, and graphics.
    • Manage brochure distribution efforts and season postering.
    • Create the Season Program using assets from the Graphic Designer.

Major Sponsorship Relations

    • Creation of sponsorship packages and procuring new sponsors.
    • Maintaining sponsor relationships.

Print, Radio & Online Marketing 

    • Manage social media accounts, including creating and posting weekly content throughout the year – particularly during the summer season. 
    • Promote the team members of each of our main season shows.
    • Maintain active Social Media presence on all Ship’s accounts, including uplifting Indigenous voices in our community, supporting and sharing artistic community updates, and celebrating the local Parrsboro and Regional communities online. This focuses on engaging our followers via posting, commenting, messaging, and sharing/resharing. 
    • Updating and maintaining the theatre’s website.
    • Manage online advertising, including the marketing packages we opt in to. 
    • Put together regular press releases.
    • Seek out and manage ad placements in local publications and on local radio stations.

Membership 

    • Managing monthly member newsletters.
    • Assist in the annual membership campaign and support member promotion.

Fundraising & Applications 

    • Promote and run online fundraising campaigns.
    • Manage strategy and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation and relations.
    • Apply for available marketing programs and funding.

Front Desk Duties

    • Provide customer service in person, over the phone, and via email.
    • Lead communications & invites with members and sponsors.
    • Aid in ticket sales as required.

Front of House Management

    • In tandem with the Community Relations Director, hire, support, and supervise the Front of House Administrator during the summer season , including training and providing box office services when and if required.

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Artistic Director and General Manager
  • Works alongside with the Community Relations Director
  • Supervises the Front of House Assistant
  • Collaborates with all other staff and creative teams as necessary.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

The ideal candidate has the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to hybrid self-directed work and the following of directions from supervisors. 

Experience

  • Social Media management
  • Customer service
  • Sponsorship relations management
  • Website management
  • Experience with photoshop & illustrator an asset
  • Marketing education and/or comparable on-the-job training an asset

A driver’s license is required, and access to reliable transportation. A love and knowledge of theatre and live performance is preferred and/or a love for Cumberland county and the Parrsboro area.
